strobe lights for safety in Fl? Legal?
The law says that road maintenance and construction and transportation vehicles and wreckers may have strobes were there is a hazard. My question is… I own and operate a lawn maintenance company in Fl. I have some commercial jobs were I am forced to park on the side of the road (some times very close to busy traffic) Can I put a clear or amber colored strobe light in my truck so it is easier for cars to notice me parked there? Any Info would help. I just don’t think my truck’s hazard lights are doing a great job.
Industrial designers = best freehand draftsmen?
I’m trying to decide if an industrial design degree is right for me. Here are some thoughts on this:
- I want to draw everything, and do it by hand, not computer: portraits, figure drawing, cars, spaceships, landscapes, etc. Is industrial design the best discipline for achieving this goal? If not, what is?
- I love looking at the hand-drawn designs of industrial designers, including the construction lines. I’d rather look at a designer’s rendering of a new CD player or car for example, than most "fine art" done after 1900.
- My favorite approach to drawing is to do "box modeling"–drawing a cube or box, and then cutting and sculpting it until it looks good. I think this process is a form of technical sketching. It’s very much like what 3-D modelers do with programs like Blender and 3ds Max, but on paper.
- I enjoy studying concepts like parallel and perspective projections and other concepts in drafting and descriptive geometry.
Thanks for your comments on these thoughts and questions.

Would you suggest a BMW advanced training for a career in the Automotive Technician field?
I’m 24 and I’ve been doing industrial construction my whole life but the industry is taking a hard hit from the economy. I’ve always loved cars and I’m very good with my hands and technology. I’ve read that Automotive Technicians(especially ones trained specifically for one brand) are in demand big time plus I’m tired of moving from country town to country town for 6 months to a year just to work on power plants 60-84 hours a week to clear ,000 a year. I was wondering if anybody in this industry could tell me the truth about the demand for specially trained Automotive Technicians and If it would be worth me going through one of these special programs(preferably BMW).

Dilemma regarding career path in Engineering?
I am a fresh graduate with no real experience I have been offered two job positions that are completely different and I am kind of confused. The first is as a Sales Electrical engineer, the company has existed for 86 years, they deal in cars, construction, electrical trading and construction, medical installation & trading, industrial construction & trading, etc…You get it the company is huge, they want me to be a Sales Electrical engineer on their product SIEMENS and they are willing to also send me to Germany for training. The other company in ranked 8th in the world in Electrical Design & Consulting. So here is my dilemma the two companies are really big and huge, but the problem is the big gap in salary the one of Sales Electrical Engineer is lower by like 30%,but everybody keeps on telling me that all the money is in Sales Electrical Engineering and the company told me that eventually i will be making more money as a Sales Electrical Engineer rather than an Electrical design engineer,so from the people in the field can you please tell me on the long run where the money is,i mean i find myself equally liking both job descriptions so I want to make my decision based on which path generates more money in the long run…
Thank you
The thing is I am happily willing to do both job descriptions, they both look interesting, both companies are huge,I am leaning towards the Sales Engineer job but is it justified to work for the lower salary,I mean am i crazy to do that, and is it true the there is more money in Sales engineering rather than Design Engineering. Thx
